SBDS has it all
Reasons for the guidlines, good food habits for life, an exercise plan that eases you in to a more active lifestyle--this book has it all.

South Beach Works
I recently turned 45 and after a cruise vacation with my husband I came home 142 pounds. I had done the SBD years ago, lost weight and foolishly abandoned the principles. I immediately went and dusted off my old copy. I started 9 weeks ago and also started walking 30 minutes a day on a treadmill. I'm now 125 pounds. All my clothes are at the tailor's being taken in. I look better, I feel better and my husband is thrilled. It's so much easier than trying to eat "low fat" - there are so many options. We don't miss potatoes, and when we do we have sweet potatoes instead. I've become expert at delicious salads with lots of healthy veggies and lean protein. I'm really excited to try some of the new recipes in the Supercharged book. What I'm really looking forward to is trying the interval training - just walking was getting boring - and I was worried I'd have to start walking longer and longer to keep up the benefit. Hopefully the intervals will allow me to keep my exercise routine around 30 minutes a day. If you want to lose weight and keep it off get this book!

The South Beach Diet Supercharged: Faster Weight loss and Better Health for Life
This is a great book. The food and reciepes are out of this world. The main thing is that you can diet and the rest of the family can eat the same food and not know they are eating "Diet" food and you don't have to make several different meals.

diets can be tasty
I was surprised at how flavorful the recipes were for Phase I. While I do miss starchy foods from time to time, the diet allows you to eat and snack quite a bit and encourages you to do so until you're full - and the food I'm eating now is healthier, so I don't feel guilty about it.

Eat what you want, when you want--and watch the pounds disappear!
Americans spend more than $400 billion a year eating out, and behind each burger, turkey sandwich, and ice cream sundae is a simple decision that could help you control your weight—and your life. The problem is, restaurant chains and food producers aren't interested in helping you make healthy choices. In fact, they invest $30 billion a year on advertising, much of it aimed at confusing eaters and disguising the fat and calorie counts of their products. All of that has changed with EAT THIS, NOT THAT!. This book puts the entire food industry under the spotlight, and arms you with the savvy tricks and insider information it takes to eat well no matter where you are. With EAT THIS, NOT THAT! you're the expert in every eating situation, from the frozen food aisle to your favorite fast food joint to your local sports bar. You control your food universe—and lose the pounds you want--because, unlike every other customer, you'll know the smart choices to make—instantly! EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is jam-packed with secrets the restaurant industry doesn't want you to know. For example: • Burger King doesn't want you to know that a BK Big Fish® Sandwich and fries have a whopping 1000 calories—nearly half your daily caloric intake! (Fish is usually healthy, but not this kind. Find out why with this book.) • Pizza Hut doesn't want you to know that a standard pizza in Italy contains 500 to 800 calories, but the same meal at Pizza Hut can top 2,100 calories! (You'd need to ride a stationary bike for more than three hours to burn off this mistake. Instead, eat all the pizza you want by making smart choices. EAT THIS, NOT THAT! shows you how.) • Macaroni Grill doesn't want you to know that a single serving of their Grilled Teriyaki Salmon has more than three times your daily allowance of sodium! (Cut your risk of high blood pressure by making smart choices at the same restaurant. You'll find them inside.) If only you knew the industry secrets, you could eat at any of your favorite restaurants—or chow down on everything from the company vending machine to your kids’ Halloween buckets—and know that every decision you made was smart, healthy, and the best possible choice for you. For example, did you know: • At McDonald’s, an Egg McMuffin® is actually a healthy choice, with just 300 calories. (The Hotcakes pack more than double that amount!) • At Krispy Kreme, all you need to do is order the Very Berry Chiller instead of the Mocha Dream Chiller, and you'll save 500 calories! (Do that once a week and you'll drop more than 7 pounds this year—without trying!) • At Chipotle, you can cut 570 calories out of your Chicken Burrito just by ordering it as a bowl (without the tortilla) and asking them to hold the rice. (Same great taste, but with 94 fewer carb grams!) • Choosing a cinnamon roll at Au Bon Pain over Cinnabon will save you 463 calories and 20 grams of fat! • In the freezer section of your local supermarket, a turkey pot pie from Swanson’s has 610 fewer calories than a turkey pot pie from Pepperidge Farms. • In the produce aisle, you'll get twice the vitamin C—and nine times as much vitamin A—simply by picking red bell peppers over green ones. (Who said eating healthy was difficult?) And that’s why EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is going to change everything. It’s time to level the playing field. We're all tired of sneaky calories adding to our waistlines, and having to starve ourselves or spend hours on the treadmill trying to burn off the damage. Now—for the first time—you're in charge. With this simple illustrated guide to thousands of foods--along with the nutrition secrets that lead to fast and permanent weight loss--you'll make the smartest choice every time!

buy it. Do it.
This book has great lifestyle options for people who like to eat healthily or for people who need to lose weight. I bought mine at Borders for 19.95 so I should have shopped around. I have honestly lost 20 pounds from eating the foods the book suggests. Its not really a diet you have to concentrate on. Just keep the book in your car after reading through it the first time then you constantly have it as a reference you can scan through before entering the restaurant. Buy it.

This little book will shock you into better choices
This book is great if you still want to eat out and make wise food choices. The majority of the book breaks down choices at many regular restaurants and fast food restaurants. On facing pages you are presented with the "Eat This" choice on one side and "Not That" on the other. It not only shows what the better choice is, but it breaks down the fat and calories from both. Here's one example: Burger King "Eat this" choice is the Whopper Jr. and a Garden Salad for a grand total of 365 calories and 12 grams of fat - the comparison on the facing page for "Not That" is the BK Big Fish Sandwich and a medium order of fries for a grand total of 1,000 calories and 52 grams of fat. You could argue that no one should eat fast food, but if you want to eat out, this book gives you lower fat/calorie alternatives. This is an excellent little book.

Skinny Bitch

| Editorial Review :
Not your typical boring diet book, this is a tart-tongued, no-holds-barred wakeup call to all women who want to be thin. With such blunt advice as, "Soda is liquid Satan" and "You are a total moron if you think the Atkins Diet will make you thin," it's a rallying cry for all savvy women to start eating healthy and looking radiant. Unlike standard diet books, it actually makes the reader laugh out loud with its truthful, smart-mouthed revelations. Behind all the attitude, however, there's solid guidance. Skinny Bitch espouses a healthful lifestyle that promotes whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, and encourages women to get excited about feeling "clean and pure and energized."
Customer Review :
Mixed feelings about the book
The GOOD: First off, one author holds a masters in Holistic Nutrion so she IS qualified to write such a book. The information about aspartame alone blew me away. I've been drinking diet cola for years and have struggled on and off with depression and this book made me seriously consider if they are linked.
This book was funny and I like how the authors aren't scared to say what they truly think when it comes to diet, animal cruelty, and veganism. Even if you aren't ready to go vegetarian or vegan, the info about articial sweetneners, the effects of sugar, dairy, and meat, and how fruits and veggies are so good for you is helpful. I know, I know, it's all been said before. But most authors usually tell us to stop eating this crap like we are 4 years olds. These authors are saying as a grown women you should know better than to keep eating crap!
Overall, there is a lot of good information in this book. And the fact of matter is, because everything we eat either is regulated by the government or should be better regulated, what we are eating IS a political issue! Part of the reason I think this book was marketed the way that it was is so people who normally wouldn't be open to this kind of information would read about it.
THE BAD: But the fact that it was marketed in such a way was a complete "bait and switch." I left this book thinking of the authors as "vegan nazis." And it's hard to take such scathing hatred for the animal and meat industry seriously when they are models promoting clothing that is most likely being sewn together by foreign children in sweatshops! I find it hilarious that these self-righteous bitches are trying to tell me what I should and shouldn't do when they work(ed) for an industry that makes women feel horrible about themselves and their bodies. And the language! Don't call me names or talk down to me. The "f bomb" has NO place in a diet book. But this isn't really about losing weight anyway. It's about becoming vegan. And really should have been marketed as such. (But if it had I would have never read it.)
There were a few moments when I thought I was reading a book written by anorexics. Wait until you are ravenous before eating!? Eat one peice of fruit then wait 10 minutes until you eat another!?
Another part that I found absurd was the advice to never take any medication not even aspirin. Aspirin is made from a PLANT! Aspirin was originally created from the bark of willow trees, so shouldn't they be promoting organic aspirin rather than just outright telling you to never take it!? Educate yourselves!

Fast delivery on Skinny Bitch
Very pleased with the delivery time of 4 business days! I've read this book before and believe the information is so important that I want to share it with many others, so I bought another copy from Amazon to loan it out (or give away another copy). Everyone should read this, even if the language is not to your liking. Sometimes it takes language like this to get the point across!! Go Skinny Bitches!

Should be required reading for all humans- bring on one for the men
I did a lot of research into vegetarianism years ago, when I was single, and was a vegetarian for 7 years or so....but then I got married, quickly had kids....and my husband is a confirmed meat eater. I started our marriage though buying only organic fruits and veggies, brown rice, wheat flour, and thought I had educated him about healthy eating. Since I would not cook meat, he took over a lot of the cooking though after the kids came along and I had gone back to work. My health took a nosedive- from being the healthiest I had ever been- to now, being the fattest- all so the kids (and he) could have the same comfort food he had grown up with. Mind you I am very very grateful for all his help...but....
Well, I have had enough. I know the truth that is in this book. It is excellent to give us all a thunk in the head....which most of us truly do need.
I can't wait for a version for the men to come out.
I would also love to see someone investigate the current American cancer treatments in an easy to read format such as this. For example, if you get cancer at 40 is chemotherapy really GOOD for you longterm if you want to be healthy until you are 80? Or is it really killing the immediate problem and your healthy organs and functions to boot? I would truly like to know if this is also an invention of the very large medical industry.

A PETA meeting in disguise?
I first saw this book in stores. I wish I head read any sort of review online first. It really appealed to my fabulous side, along with my desire to be skinny. Unfortunately it really had nothing to do with dieting. It was more about two failed models trying to use "hip" filthy language to push their beliefs on the public. I'm pretty sure the back cover didn't mention that the book would leave me sobbing in bed about how people slaughter pigs. That was not what I signed up for. If I was interested in joining PETA I would send Ingrid a check. However shallowly, I was only interested in getting skinny. This book didn't help. It only made me cry.

Good info but PROFANE
This book contains good information and holds your interest but it is so profane. I can't believe the wording - enough to make a sailor blush. I thought the title was simply an attention grabber, but it is indicative of the book's content. If they would clean up their language I could give it 4-5 stars. Three is generous. Elsea

Question : Pls! list of the food, high fiber food?
Pls! list of the food, high fiber food?
Answer:
A list of high fiber foods helps you know which foods to include in daily meal planning. Obtaining adequate fiber is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. However, too many people do not obtain sufficient fiber each day, which results in poor bowel function and constipation. Whether obtained from the list of high fiber foods or from fiber supplements, the recommended daily fiber consumption should be about 25-30 grams for an adult. The typical adult in the USA averages about 11 grams of fiber per day according to the American Dietetic Association.
The walls of plant cells are the sources of dietary fiber. Here are typical high fiber foods along with the approximate number of grams of fiber they contain. Fiber contents shown below on the list of high fiber foods are for a food quantity of 1/2 cup unless otherwise noted:
• Bananas, 3 grams - medium 8" long
• Beans, 6-10 grams - baked beans, black beans, great northern beans, kidney beans, garbanzos, pinto beans, white beans
• Berries, 4-5 grams - blackberries, raspberries
• Bran Cereals, 5-10 grams - All-Bran, Bran Buds, 100% Bran, Raisin Bran
• Bread, 4-7 grams - 2 slices whole wheat, pumpernickel, seven-grain
• Broccoli, 4-5 grams
• Brussels Sprouts, 2 grams
• Carrots, 3-4 grams
• Dried Figs, 10 grams - 3 figs
• Fruit, 4 grams - medium apple, medium pear
• Green Beans, 2 grams - broad beans, pole beans, snap beans
• Greens, 4-6 grams - beet greens, collards, kale, spinach, turnip greens
• Lentils, 6 grams
• Lima Beans - 4-6 grams
• Peas, 7-9 grams - black-eyed peas, green peas
• Potatoes, 4-5 grams - medium baked Idaho or sweet potato
• Sweet Corn, 5 grams
Using the list of high fiber foods and including more of the foods from the list can help increase daily fiber consumption so important for normal bowel function. Also important is that adequate liquid be present for good bowel function. Each fiber particle will actually absorb liquid in the colon and help facilitate the desired regular movement along in the bowels.
If you make changes to your diet to include more of the foods from the list of high fiber foods and still are not having a daily bowel movement, you may wish to add a fiber supplement. The best fiber supplements are rice bran or psyllium made from ground-up psyllium seeds. Don't expect to notice better bowel movements overnight as it may take several weeks for your body and elimination system to improve. The payoff will be that wastes are eliminated along with the toxins from your system instead of your body reabsorbing them.

Question : What are high fiber foods if someone has Diverticulosis and Ulcer's?
My mom's wondering, and I want to know high fiber foods since she has Diverticulosis, but only foods that are also safe to eat that won't cause pain in her stomach since she has Ulcer's.
Dr Q I want to know more detail, as in what type of fiber jar you mean. And that product you listed, the site won't show it. Thanks for your great answer :)
Answer:
Hi, Great Question..With colon problems on the rise due to not eating right, this is an excellent question..Diverticulosis is one of many results of an unhealthy colon..Our colon can become clogged due to eating too much meat, flour containing foods, white bread, and pork, and most of all from not drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day..Pork food is trully unhealthy for the colon..Having a clogged colon can cause other problems such as gas, migraine headaches, skin rashes, bad breath, portruding abdomin, and etc..For best results your mother should Purchase a jar of fiber, because the body does not know the difference between grain fiber, and fiber from food..Fiber can fill in the pockets of the colon to help her heal..I have found a product that not only help the colon to eliminate waste, but it also has fiber that help cleanses the colon walls..
look up drnatura fiber..You can find it cheaper on ebay

Question : Does anyone know some high fiber foods that are easy to take on the go?
I am always running around, between school and work, and I need to find something that is high in fiber that I can just grab and snack on while in the car. Thanks for any help!
Actually I am right, it is "fiber". You are thinking of the word "fibber" which is a liar. I looked it up in the dictionary. There is no such thing as "fibre"
I'm sorry, I'm in America and we say "fiber".
Answer:
By the way, if you were from England then you will eat 'fibre' in your automovile in your way to a Cricket game.
For quick snacks it is hard to beat dried foods like apricots, dates or raisins. Fresh fruit like orange, apple or pears can make an excellent snack.
Don't forget or be afraid of almonds, for snacks. Pack with fiber but also good fats and minerals.
If you have time to prepare food, then I would recommend baking your own muffins with whole wheat flour. I make mine and add wheat bran or oatmeal bran or flaxseed. Great source of fibre and nutrition are the legumes, like lentils, beans, garbanzo (chickpeas for you English!) Mix your legumes with brown rice and you'll have a great meal loaded with fiber and complete protein.
Another great source of fiber are avocados. I enjoy them sliced between whole wheat sandwiches.
In a coffee grinder I prepare a mix of flaxseed, almonds and sunflower seeds. This is loaded with a lot of good nutrition and fiber. I use this to sprincle on anything from yogurt, cereal, smoothies, salsas, etc. I put it in a little baggy and have it handy in places like the office, etc.

Question : how to eat high fiber and low carbs to keep 2 drs. happy?
I have diabetes, so need to eat a low carb diet, but I also have Inflammatory bowel disease, which means I need to eat a lot of high fiber foods. But the high fiber foods are also the ones that are high in carbs. I feel like I am going around in circles with no way out. Anyone have some suggestions??
Answer:
Sounds like one doctor is from the 1950s. To keep both happy, pay them and be very sick. If you want to feel better, eat unprocessed plant foods since all have lots of fiber. Animal foods have no fiber.
For diabetes amount of carbs is not important. It is how fast they enter the blood (glycemic). Also learn that type 1 and 2 are very different diseases.
Which has more calories: a plain potato or one with a healthy fat like olive oil? The latter. Which is more fattening? The former. How can this be? The fat slows down the calories going into the blood (see glycemic load and glycemic index) making it less fattening. It is not about how many calories but how fast they enter the blood. But plant foods have fiber. Fiber provides no calories, is filling and also slows the calories entering your blood. Learn to cure type 2 diabetes.

Question : What is an easy high fiber food?
I'm a picky eater and I'd like a high fiber snack idea for work and maybe one for breakfast so I can stay full longer at work. I don't like "weird" food but I'm open to an suggestions.
Answer:
Wheat bread is always a good way to go. Beans are also high in fiber as well. There is actually fiber powder you can buy at the grocery store and mix into water that's colorless and tasteless that will help with food cravings. It also can be mixed into certain foods as well.
