Glad I got this book.

This book was recommended to me and has come in handy for reference. It's really like a bible for people who are open to eastern and western medicine but prefer to use food rather than pills to help the body do its thing well.

Eastern tradition meets Western nutrition

I have recently been studying Feng Shui, which has introduced me to Macro Biotics, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese medicine and the eastern philosophy of Taoism. If I hadn't learned about the 5 elements and yin and yang, I don't think I could've comprehended much of what has been written in many of the books that are out there- and I've ploughed through several. This book, however, not only gives a much better and more complete explanation than many of the other books that I've read, but I think that someone new to eastern medicine and philosophy could very easily understand this. Having been actively involved in nutrition for the last 12 years, I am familiar with many of the options that are available in alternative and natural medicine. This nutritional plan, however, makes the most common sense of any I have read about or tried. It just "feels" right to me. I bought four copies to give to family members for Christmas. And I just gave one to my clinical nutritionist for her birthday. She hadn't seen it and was overjoyed. I have been talking to her for months about "stuck qi" and "summer heat". Now we will be on the same page. She mentioned that she's interested in studying acupuncture after her kids get a little older. I think that maybe I had something to do with her decision. That and the fact that she saw incredible results in me when I visited my TCM doctor. Spread the word.

excellent source

It is the best book on nutrition ever! Yes it is heavily biased towards TCM, but it is perfectly fine with me. I thoroughly enjoy reading this book. It has good information, research and insights.

2 Great books in one!

Awesome! I love those girls! The book changed my life! And now I have the recipes to go along with it! YES! It's such a nice little compact book set! LOVE it!

Funny!

This is a funny, crude book that is often shocking. It teaches about veganism and is enough to motivate a person to become one. But, I got over it about a week later.

Rating :

Well done

This book is a great answer to the problem of connecting veganism to modern day, trendy, youth culture.

It's not too hippie-ish or off the main stream like you often find with some veg cook books. It's hip, no holds barred, and easy to read. Young women won't even necessarily realize they're eating sans cruelty - they'll just think they're having fun reading and cooking yummy, healthy food.

The potato & pumpkin curry is to die for!

Glad I read it!

I read a lot of reviews before I picked up this book. A lot of people complained at the manner in which it was written. I am not easily offended, so I found this book a lot of fun to read because of it's straight up honesty. I felt it was very motivating to make changes in my life.

I've made a few of the recipes in the cookbook. And the food is delicious. I could eat that club sandwich for lunch everyday and not get bored with it. It's amazing the difference you feel when you start reading ingredients and choosing such healthy food.

And to those who say that these women are basically making you starve yourself with this food...I have to disagree 100%. The food is delicious and good for you. It still has calories you need, just less fat calories that you don't. And most of this food is cholesterol free.

Needless to say. This book has made me change the way I look at food, and I feel a lot better for it.

Best Read Yet

If you are tired of being lied to about the facts, then you need to read Skinny Bitch. It will open your eyes to what you thought you knew, and clarify the questions you may have. Don't be upset, there is some swearing, but their book clearly denotes a "tough love" approach. Enjoy!

Paisano's for GF dining

On page 276 the author teases us with a description of a freshly baked GF pizza, home-brewed GF beer, and freshly baked GF dessert. I don't know about the home-brewed GF beer, though I'm sure they have GF beer, the restaurant is Paisano's in Albuquerque, NM. GF Pasta, GF pizza, you name it, they have it...and it's great!

5 Stars is not Enough

My 19 year old daughter was diagnosed as gluten intolerant and we started a search for information. I found this book on amazon.com and I was amazed at the fantastic reviews. They are well deserved. My daughter could not put the book down. Most books on the subject are either medical books or nutritional guides. This is an entertaining read which is FULL of useful info such as how to snack at a party. I have spoken with the author Danna Korn and she is very knowledgeable and willing to help. Do not assume a "Dummies" book is too simple. It makes a complicated medical condition simple to understand.

Excellent Resource

This is the most comprehensive yet down-to-earth resource for those of us with celiac disease who must live gluten-free. I've read several books that give me medical terms that are useful I'm sure but fail to cover the basics of day-to-day living. This one does just that plus it has recipes and lots of web sites to explore. I would call this the "Bible" for gluten free living.

A concept revisited

I rejected this book some 10 years ago. Owing to health issues I bought a new copy and wish that I had given it the credence it deserves at that time. It is well written, simple but informative in its information and excellently presented. The book is a tribute to the depth of knowledge that Dr. D'Adamo has.

Pleased so far...

I ordered this book because some of my co-workers are on this diet. So far, I have replaced several major food items the book suggested I stop eating with other foods. I actually have lost weight and have more energy. I will continue to do so with other foods.

I think this diet worth considering, especially by those with allergies as I have. I'm hoping for a long-term solution and am keeping an open mind that this will help.

I was suffering from a skin ailment for the past 2 years. After reading Eat Right 4 Your Type, I decided to start following the diet. My skin ailment went away!!! I am sold on the blood type diet. It really does work. I feel terrific, hooray!! This mini resource fits in my purse and I use it all the time. I tell people about my success and they want to know all about it. I use it when I shop, and when I go out to eat, to make sure I buy and eat things that won't be bad for my blood.

reducing my wheat and glutten intake

I'm reducing my wheat and gluten intake to see how my body motabilizes food. This book is the best cookbook period. Because it is a gluten and wheat free book is beside the point. I eat as healthy as I can because my immediate family is diabetic and overweight. I have reduced my sugar intake as well. I know the author says to follow directions exactly but I have substited sugar and eggs in her recipe with no problems. I use xyletol, agave, stevia and zero instead of sugar. I also use an egg replacer. So far there is no prolems. the combinations of the recipes are amazing. Thank you to the author for taking the time and energy to pass on this labor of love. It is very much appreciated.

Best GF cookbook I've found.

I had an ever-growing collection of gluten-free cookbooks, driven by mediocre recipes or lack of the specific recipes I wanted... but then I found Gluten Free Baking Classics and I no longer need to go looking for bigger or better cookbooks.

Every single recipe is an absolute winner. The shortbread is divine, the chocolate chip cookies are my new standard, the vanilla cupcakes are better than my old wheat-flour ones, and I have total confidence when I try a new recipe that it will turn out wonderfully. Easy recipes and tips make it even better (no running around town looking for 10 different kinds of flour). This book may be smaller and simpler than others, but it is the best; I have recommended it to all of my celiac friends. *****

A-Mazing!!!

I finally figured out I was intolerant to dairy and gluten. I'm a TOTAL junk food junkie and I REFUSE to eat subpar desserts simply because they fit my dietary needs. They HAVE to be good enough that I don't feel like I'm missing out. The recipes in this cookbook are incredible.
1. The lemon cake on the front cover? TO DIE FOR!!! I replaced the butter with soy butter and the milk with soy milk and . . . ta da! Dairy-free as well!
2. The chocolate chip cookies are awesome. You would honestly never guess they were gluten-free (or dairy-free for that matter!)
3. The brownies are fantastic, but since I like less of a milk-chocolatey taste to my brownies I make them with Ghirardelli's Bittersweet Chocolate Chips (before I went dairy-free. Those chips are NOT dairy-free)and I think they're far better that way.
4. I love the sandwich bread, although I only needed to bake it for half the time. Must be doing something wrong, but it still tastes great!
5. The pizza crust is fantastic. The "dough" is ridiculously difficult to work with and you'd never think it could possibly bake into something that tasted both crisp and chewy, but surprise surprise!
6. The rustic flat bread (focaccia) recipe is great. I actually use that bread as my sandwich bread. It tastes great toasted. It's just easier to make this bread than the sandwich bread so I usually just use this as my all-purpose bread.

The great thing about this book is that it teaches you how to adapt normal recipes to suit a gluten-free lifestyle. This is truly the only gluten-free cookbook you need to buy because not only are the recipes great, but the basic flour mixes that she teaches you to make will help you make other things that aren't in this cookbook. Buy it! And make the lemon cake! (Although it takes FOREVER!)

Best GF Baking Cookbook I have found

I stumbled upon this cookbook in the bookstore and bought it. It has become my favorite and most used GF baking guide. It is the only one I really use anymore. Recipe ingredients are simple, processes are easy, and the end products are DELICIOUS! My Non-Celiac friends are asking for the recipes. I have even started making my own creations using the base recipes in this book. I am ordering of these books as Christmas gifts.

Questions & Answers
Question : I just had a colonoscopy and my doctor told me to go on a high fiber diet. Any suggestions?????
Hi, I am 16 years old, female, 5'5" and 133 pounds. First of all, I would like to lose about 10-15 pounds. But, I had a colonoscopy yesterday. I am awaiting the results, but my gastroenterologist (spelling?) told me to go on a high fiber diet. Can someone help me please plan a few days meals, or offer suggestions of high fiber diet plans. Thank you.

Answer:
I also suffer from intestinal problems. I recommend soluble fiber over insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber gets broken down in the body and insoluble fiber doesn't, so it may aggravate an inflammed intestine. Here are some sources of soluble fiber: Dried beans and peas Nuts Barley Flax seed Fruits such as oranges and apples Vegetables such as carrots Psyllium husk Also focus on imporving your emotional state. Are you angry at someone? Do you suffer from anxiety? If so, you need to conquer these problems in order to improve your medical condition.

Question : i started a high fiber ,is the mechanism for weight loss exercise in this diet?
i am constantly running to the bathroom after i started my high fiber diet,so began to think that the increased exercise was a big cause for weight loss in this diet,is this right?

Answer:
yeah,it keeps your system "regular",your poop should come out easy and in an "s" shape.

Question : started a high fiber diet getting like 100 or more in a day at 2000 calories and drinking plenty of water?
will i lose alot of weight or maintain with that amount of fiber, i do exercise too every day mainly its all the fiber from the cereal fiber one.

Answer:
30 grams of fiber a day is sufficient.

Question : How can you eat a high fiber diet without getting gas?
I am pretty healthy and i eat so much fruit and i guess i do get a lot of fiber, and i like eating healthy but the problem is that i get a lot of gas afterwards, so its like..weight loss, healthy, with gas, or unhealthy. it doesnt bother me now, but when i start school i dont know if being healthy and having a high fiber diet is worth it! This is probably what i will hav on a typical day. (this is probably a lot less fiber than what i am eating now) breakfast- yogurt, whole wheat toast, fruit lunch- chicken salad, green tea dinner- lean protein, brown rice, veggie.. but that is alot less than im eating now, so maybe ill be okay? can you give me some advice?? i mean, fiber is good for weight loss, its necessary! i just dont know if its worth getting gas for.

Answer:
I know what you mean. I eat over 50 grams of fiber every day from fruit, oat bran and TVP. The gas was terrible, but after a while my body has started to adjust. I took beano, a pill dedicated to the elimination of methane production from starchy foods. I would go to the drug store and try to find something similar.

Question : I am trying to do a high fiber diet and loose some weight?
I am eating 30 gr. of fiber a day ! I am feeling great and i have started walking! I was wondering if anyone has lost weight on a fiber diet or not? will it come off easily with exersise? what did you do and eat? I wanna loose 10 pounds.

Answer:
Well I think it's totally about self-control: Breakfast: integral toast and a 70-calorie yogurt Lunch: Fruit (any kind, except banana) and a fish (not fried) Snack if you get hungry: gum or 90-calorie diet bar Dinner: Light soup (not a creamy soup, it has too much fat) Or maybe a cup of special K or cheerios Some other tips: DON'T EVER DINNER AFTER 7PM, IT HAS BEEN PROVEN IN INVESTIGATIONS AND THAT HELPS A LOT, TRY TO DINNER BEFORE 7, I SWEAR IT'S AMAZING I recommend you coffee in the morning, it gives you a lot of energy! (without sugar, or maybe splenda) Another thing is to drink green tea once a day, it burns fat and it's good for your health And of course, do at least 50 abs per day Good luck

Question : High fiber diet and fiber supplements to lose weight?
I've been doing some research on using a high fiber diet (35+ grams a day) and fiber supplements (like glucomannan) to lose weight. Anyone have a successful experience with this? Please include how many grams of fiber a day you consumed, what supplements you took, and how much weight you lost. Thank you!

Answer:
You need to be very careful. You are treading the line. A high fiber diet is fine, but remember too much of a good thing is always bad. The key is moderation. Misus of those suipplements can laed you stright into Anoerexia.

Question : Kashi Go Lean High FIber Diet causing Gas?
About 2 weeks ago I tried this new cereal from Kashi. It's a High Fiber cereal. After a few days of eating about 2 bowls a day I noticed I was getting a lot of gas.I know it may sound gross but it's something I wanted to learn more about. I know that a High Fiber diet will lead to more gas but how long will it take for my body to get used to High Fiber and stop producing so much gas? Or does a High Fiber diet always cause Gas? Thanks.

Answer:
That Kashi stuff is hard-core, like for vegan-feminists and similar species. Next thing you know, you'll be wearing unbleached organic cotton and wearing a shoulder bag you bought at a flea market in Santa Cruz. Anyway...yeah, switching to a high fiber diet often causes gas, if you're not used to it. It could take awhile for you to get used to it, anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months. Eating some yogurt each day should help quiet your tummy. Either that, or start hitting those McNuggets and Snickers bars again.

Question : A neighbor who eats a high-fiber diet is suffering irregularity. What else can he do to get back on track?
A neighbor who eats a high-fiber diet is suffering irregularity. What else can he do to get back on track?

Answer:
OMG, I'm an EXPERT on irregularity because I've suffered from it all my life. First of all, he needs to start taking magnesium on a regular basis. They sell magnesium pills at any vitamin store and it's like Milk of Magnesia without the chalky taste. Not only will it help with the regularity issues but it will help keep his bones healthy. Lots of people take calcium for the bones but many fail to take magnesium not knowing that the body cannot utilize the calcium to make strong bones if it's magnesium deficient! Naturally, it's important that he drink plenty of water while doing this. He also needs to start including Essential Fatty Acids in his vitamin plan. Fish oil, flaxseed oil, borage oil, sesame seed oil, there's many sources of EFA's but they're the body's natural lubricants. For example, before I started supplementing with EFA's, I often had problems with ear wax build up and the doctor had to flush my ears out to clean out the old wax. It was because I was deficient in the "good" oils, EFA's, and the body needs EFA's to lubricate many, many parts including the ear canal. A couple of weeks after starting to regularly supplement with EFA's, a big chunk of wax fell out of one of my ears. Gross, right? But good for me since now I don't have to go to the doctor to get the wax out! If a high fiber diet isn't doing it for him, suggest the magnesium and EFA's. With magnesium, suggest he do the recommended daily dosage as stated on the package for starters and, if that doesn't get him going, to increase it. I found that I have to take 3 to 4 times the recommended daily dosage to stay regular. Instead of 1 pill, I take 3 or 4 pills a day. Sometimes I cut back to 2 but if I forget to take them for a couple of days then I'm quickly reminded by my bowels.

Question : What would be an ideal fiber % for a 120 lb Lab? The vet said to put him on a high fiber diet like Purina....?
Proplan but I was told when looking for food make sure the first ingredient is a meat, not corn, or byproduct. I thought corn makes your dog poop alot. Any suggestions, experiences with a dog on a diet? I don't have an American Field Lab. The vet thinks his bloodline is from overseas, Germany. He is a full blooded Lab and he is about 20-25 lbs overweight (according to my vet who breeds Labs and German Shorthairs and has since the 70's) We walk 30-45 mins up and down hills 2 times everyday and he runs loose about everyday for 15-20 mins. I feed 2X a day, a little over 1 cup each feeding! I have a huge brown dog! The AFL is half the size of the European Labs

Answer:
He's not 60 pounds over weight....male labs can be between 75-85 pounds and not be considered overweight. My male black lab weighs in at 95 pounds now...he had been eating Pedigree weight loss dog food, and since he is down we have switched him over to the weight maintenance formula. Our vet is pleased with his weight....Exercise is just as important as diet though...daily walks will help.

Question : What are the best foods to eat for a high fiber diet?
Like breakfast, lunch and dinner with a grocery list. The price of produce is so high, what about us real folks who don't have mega bucks to spend on all the fancy stuff at the nutrition stores. I want to know some regular ideas for a high fiber lifestyle. Any honest idea's?

Answer:
I adopted a high fiber diet about a year and a half ago and I had the same concerns as you about the costs. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. It does get expensive but I try to eat the kinds that happen to be on sale that week, and I also have a garden and grow what I can myself. Also make sure that you don't peel things like apples and potatoes, since they have a lot of fiber in their skins. I eat a lot of oatmeal and other high fiber/low sugar cereals. I've switched from regular pasta to the whole wheat kinds. You really have to read labels when you are looking for things like breads, cereals, tortillas, etc. When looking at the ingredients list look for "100% whole grain" as the first ingredient and stay away from products that list "enriched flour". Check the fiber content on the label also, some breads have none and others have 5 or more grams per serving. Avoid white rice and opt for brown instead. White rice has the fiber stripped from it in processing. You can find recipes for things like whole-wheat pizza crust and whole-wheat pancakes that are affordable to make, taste great, and are high in fiber. It takes a little work but it is possible to eat a high fiber diet without killing your checkbook. It's amazing how much better you will feel after eating this way for a while. Good luck!!!
