Creative but not to practical
I am a new vegan I ordered this and anxiously waited for it , I find it creative and informative ( lots of info about new foods ) but It is not really practical. The recipes look like they will take all day . I find some of the recipes so exotic I am scared to try them like. Adzuki acorn squash ane pears in soup, It could be amazing but I don't want to spend that much money and time if it isn't , I'll be keeping it, there are some great explanations of tecniques , The authors are funny and smart , But over all it is kind of dissapointing .

Vegan cooking for EVERYONE!
This is a truly amazing book! It covers everything you could want, and everything is great! I have never had a book I could count on so heavily to wow me each and every time, until this one. I can't wait to try them all!
I LOVE that most things in here are things I can make out of what is already in my house. I rarely have to buy anything different to make what sounds good. The pantry stocking list is really helpful for this stuff, when you are first starting out, by the way! (I took the book to the store with me!)
Overall, I just love everything about it. And I love that the authors have a website where I can ask questions if I have them, and get answers from others who have tried them too! www.theppk.com :)

Tired and True Cookbook!!
As a vegetarian cooking for my dairy allergic son, I found myself lost in the sea of "meat" substitutes. Enter VEGANMONICON. Every recipe I've tried has been fantastic, fairly easy to prepare, and did I mention, fantastic! I have always been curious about vegan cooking and now I have tried and true recipes to satisfy my curiosity and appetite- yum.

not a single recipe that includes cabbage. not a one!
I could not find a single recipe that includes cheap, eco-friendly, uber-healthful cabbage. Not a one! There isn't even a single entry for cabbage in the index! To put this into perspective, there are 19 index entires for potatoes, 9 for pumpkin, 4 for yuca, 3 for dill, 2 for lemongrass, 2 for dates, and 2 for agave nectar. But not a single entry for the veggie many cost-conscious vegan northerners use more frequently than many other, much more expensive options. Crazy!

Good book, but...
I like the book and I have found some great recipes in it, but also some that are not. One of the recipes in the books is heralded as one of their favs... I made it and it was not at all good... not even a little. I agree with one of the previous reviewers that sometimes the flavor combinations are weird. BUT, it has a phenomenal banana bread recipe in it, so it's not all bad. I have noticed that in the case of many of the recipes, that the editing doesn't seem to be that great. In the case of the banana bread, for example: at the end of the recipe, it says to add the chocolate chips, if using them... well, this is the first mention of chocolate chips. In most recipes I have seen, if there is an optional ingredient, it is usually included in the ingredients list as such, with a quantity / amount to use. I have found similar examples to this throughout the book. Maybe a more experienced chef wouldn't need these little details and I have certainly figured it out, but this detail would have been helpful all the same. I would rec it, but you just need to be aware. Happy cooking!

A MUST-READ FOR BABY-BOOMERS
Baby Boomers are quickly losing memory and health. This book directs you on how to identify areas of "aging" and what to do to take control of your health in that area. Many of us are concerned about our health, and all the horrible alternatives we have under the influence of the mega-laboratories. This book gives us hope.

Would You Like To Look And Feel Younger?
From: BasilAndSpice.com
Don't we all wish to not just appear younger, but to also feel younger?
Younger You promises to help the reader unlock the hidden power of your brain to look and feel 15 years younger. The author, Eric R. Braverman, M.D. is the director of the Place for Achieving Total Health (PATH) Medical Center in New York. Younger You has received positive comments from notable doctor-authors: Nicholas Perricone, Isadore Rosenfeld, and David Perlmutter.
Younger You is broken into 6 parts:
1. Your ageprint--you're only as old as your oldest part. Disease occurs in stages so catch problems early with suggested ultrasounds for proper treatment. Braverman recommends the usage of bioidentical hormones; supplementation--zinc, fish oil, and others; follow a diet rich in fruits and vegetables; exercise. This section includes ageprint quizzes to help the reader identify problems within the body and begin him on the path to wellness. 2. Your brain as the key--lack of dopamine, a brain-produced chemical, lowers energy, affecting the rest of the body. Braverman explains the correlation between the brain and obesity, offering several possibilities of solution. The seven stages of cognitive decline, the loss of GABA, and the relation of Serotonin to happiness are pointed out and effective methods to counter undesirable conditions are discussed. 3. The overworked cardiovascular system--referred to as "cardiopause" by Braverman, it is the slowing and aging of the heart. An estimated 700,000 Americans will have a heart attack this year. Braverman asserts that the condition can be reversed. The top five risk factors include family history, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol. 4. The modulating systems--includes thyropause (the weakening of metabolism), immunopause (the inability to fight infection) 5. Aging Sexuality--relates to, hormones, menopause for women and andropause for men. 6. Your Aging Frame: Bones, Muscles, and Skin--bone and muscle loss are not inevitable, but must be addressed instead.
Key concepts of Younger You:
* Conventional medicine is equivalent to an assembly line, only viewing parts of the body for treatment, rather than using an integrative whole-person approach. * Virtually all illness and disease can be detected from the outside. * When one part of the body fails, it signals an aging code to the rest of the body, which responds in kind. * Each part of the body has markers for aging. These are the warning signs. * Diagnostic testing pinpoints the aging code of every organ.
Throughout Younger You, Braverman shows the reader which natural supplements and their dosages will help for each condition/disease. He also suggests new research to support testing. A good example from p. 166 "Minor leaks of protein in your urine (albuminuria) is an early indicator of stroke or heart attack." Interspersed, Braverman also refers to various types of food, explaining how certain foods benefit or harm the body.
Considered to be a book about wellness, Younger You is also about antiaging. It represents recent discoveries in research which can be directly applied for life-saving benefits. Younger You helps the reader find out what his/her real bodily age is and understand how to act on this knowledge.
Just released as a paperback, Younger You has been made more affordable for everyone to reap the benefits of Dr. Eric R. Braverman's knowledge.

Crack the Fat-Loss Code
Have been on this program starting week 3 and lost 11 lbs. Amazing how good green beans taste now and not even hungry having to force myself to eat. At first the diet was a little confusing because I did not want to read the information and than went back and read it. This is an eating program that will be my new life change because I am not depriving myself of anything. Have never felt better. Thanks to Wendy for this great life change.

Find Your Own Evidence--CSI-Styled--For Shedding Fat!
If people would approach their weight loss like Gil Grissom on an episode of CSI, then perhaps they'd be a lot more successful at shaking the weight than they are. Finding the clues that lead to fat loss, applying those facts, and continually following the evidence can insure nothing but the best results humanly possible. That's what author Wendy Chant has set out to do with this book.
Through voracious scientific research, she has examined what it takes to burn fat and has developed a tested "code" for making it happen no matter who you are. Interestingly, the primary fuel source for energy that also brings about fat-burning is not carbohydrate--it's fat! Chant is a big fan of what's known as carb-cycling and suggests a series of four specific plans tailored to your particular goal. It's an intensive eight-week program that then transforms into your permanent lifestyle choice.
The best part about this new diet book is how encouraging Chant is throughout. She says to put away the negative thoughts about how you look and feel and just enjoy the life and the body you've been given. The changes that need to happen will happen if you commit to working the plan as best as you can. With special guidance all along the way and even some great recipes to make it work for you, this may be the clue you need that will unlock your own fat-loss code!

Perfect way of eating
The only reason I didn't give this book five stars is because the editing could have been better...but the content as a whole is amazing. I'm on the end of my sixth week following this plan and am no longer a slave to the scale, no longer controlled by food. I lost 80 pounds following very low carb, very low calorie diet....had some health issues from the calories being so low and then spent a year gaining and losing the same 10 pounds...I would do low carb, then binge on carbs, and repeated that cycle for a year. When I read an article about this, I bought the book the next day and am so happy I did. The plan works and it's one you can eat on the rest of your life....various stages to lose weight and then a maintenance guide...nothing crazy about it and it incorporates exercise. I highly recommend this book.

You lose the CRAVINGS ! Good time to stop bad habits
First, I am not a dieter! I never believed in that, but for a short stature, and midlife, my weight was at a standstill after lots of walking daily. I needed to lose at least 15 pounds, possibly 20.
Hubby, on the other hand, was the first to diet, since he has trouble walking fast or great distance. I figured this is the most efficient method for him to lose stomach fat! He effectively needed to lose 20 pounds to be more physically fit for age and health.
The South Beach Diet was our choice, and when I saw that he made a change in his life, lost about 20 pounds in few months, I accidently started to lose weight too. Simply because I was cautious of cooking or buying foods he could not have. This is about predominatly losing the stomach fat in men. As for women, you lose it in the hips, butt, and thighs.
Make a lifestyle change The book is wonderful in educating you on the safety, health, history of the prescribed changes for dieting. It is easy without measuring, counting calories, or starving.
Lose the Cravings! Good time to stop bad habits. I sit at a desk and stare into a computer all day, and nibbling always gets into the act, Chinese crackers, that once in a while nutbar, lots of fruit. That was what consisted of most of my nibblings. So I did have control, but on the diet, you do LOSE the CRAVINGS, just as the book says. My goal is to eat effectively without gaining the cravings. And, if you are on the diet for weeks at a time, on or off, it may be a good time to stop any bad eating habits.
Recipes, lists, and more There are plenty of recipes for that lifestyle change. The book also effectively lists the foods to avoid/or lessen in your lifetime, and the Foods to Avoid/Foods to Have in phases 1 and 2.
If I hadn't seen this work before my own eyes, I would not have believed it.....Rizzo

Love this book!
My Dr. suggested this diet to me after coming to him several times with no luck on other diets. So far, I've lost 15 1/2 pounds and I've only been on the diet 3 weeks.
The diet is not for everyone. ALWAYS check with your family doctor first. If your Doctor ok's it and you follow what the author says and keep in close contact with your doctor. You can lose weight and be healthy.

I was instructed by my doctor to get this book. I always make my book, dvd, or cd purchases on Amazon so that is why I bought it.

Book is Similar to Mens' Version, but Better Too!
I already had the Abs Diet for Men book but wanted to see how they modified the womens' version. I think women need to be more sensitive to quantity of food intake then men do, and I was curious as to how this book addressed it. They still stick to the theory that eating the 12 power foods will keep you from over eating, but in case you don't buy it, they spend some time crunching numbers for those who want to calorie count. The math they use, though a little complicated, seems valid and useful.
The contents of this book are VERY similar to the men's book. If you already own the mens' version, you probably don't need to shell out cash for this one. BUT where this book really impressed me was the quantity of exercises. It goes way above and beyond the mens' version, and I love this book for that reason alone. They also do a great job showing you gym versus home versions of exercises so you can do variations with more basic equipment (dumbbells only, etc.).
I'm looking forward to digging in and getting results. Even if I can't get a six pack, following what this book outlines will definitely make you healthy.

Lots of great info!
I love the photos included in the book that shows the various techniques and excercies for each part of the muscle. Plus it has a guage to let the reader know if the particular excercise is for those who just started or those who have been working out for years. You don't have to start reading from the beginning. You can jump in anywhere and be well informed.

12 power foods
Good book, David Zinczenko emphasizes on a balanced diet and focus on the 12 power foods. I listed the 12 power foods and put it on my fridge door, so I could constantly remind myself what to eat more. There are also detail instructions and pictures for some weight-training exercises. It's helpful for both gym goers and people who likes to work out at home.

Love this "diet"!!
This is an amazing plan that has me eating so healthy its unreal!! I LOVE the smoothies and enjoy making up my own recipies for them as I go along. I have never felt better and my stomach is already flattening out. I use the smoothies for breakfast and sometimes snacks at night. They are so filling with skim milk, chocolate whey powder, PB and frozen fruits. Just like a shake. I am eating all natural now and I am really on top of not buying anything with high fructose corn syrup and saturated fats or trans fats. This is a fun, easy to read book that will change your life. You wont be disappointed.

Questions & Answers
Question : Why does a high fiber diet lower blood pressure?
I already know that a high fiber, low sodium, and low fat diet lowers your blood pressure. DUH. What I can't seem to find is the reasons these things are true. I'm writing a paper on blood pressure and I've found so many great sources, but not one of them tells me the actual physiological reasons that this type of diet lowers blood pressure. If anyone could point me to some sources on this I would really appreciate it. Any doctors out there??? : )
Answer:
The reason is that fiber diet maintains the normal motility of intestines and forms a layer on the mucosa so that fat and other stuffs are not absorbed in the body; and are expelled out during defecation.
This is a strong hypothesis.
|
Question : Can you give me some common high fiber foods for my diet?
I'm looking for of the shelf items (generic is OK) for fiber.
Answer:
Here go to this site! http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/high-fiber-foods/NU00582
Hope this helps!

Question : Have you ever heard of someone getting constipated from a high-fiber diet?
I've been eating a lot of fiber recently (and I don't normally eat a lot) and I've been experiencing constipation but no diarrhea. I'm trying to "clean out my system" and I've stayed home from school the past two days because of this.
Answer:
Yes this does happen with too much fibre. I reccommend pure Prune juice, apricots, and banana's (not to many bananas, two a day, because to much will constipate you again). Also, drink a lot of water as it helps "flush out the system".
|
Question : Any yummy but high in fiber foods you can think of?
I have decided I need more fiber in my meals, but anything high in fiber doesn't taste that great. For example, most cereals that are high in fiber don't have any taste. Can you think of any food or meal plans that are high in fiber but delicious too? Thanks.
Answer:
Bran muffins with ginger are so gorgeous.
|
Question : High fiber diet and fiber supplements to lose weight?
I've been doing some research on using a high fiber diet (35+ grams a day) and fiber supplements (like glucomannan) to lose weight. Anyone have a successful experience with this? Please include how many grams of fiber a day you consumed, what supplements you took, and how much weight you lost. Thank you!
Answer:
You need to be very careful. You are treading the line. A high fiber diet is fine, but remember too much of a good thing is always bad. The key is moderation. Misus of those suipplements can laed you stright into Anoerexia.

Question : NEED Help with diet plan and shopping list, I did some quizzes and the best diet so far for me is HIGH FIBER?
OK I am not interested in spending money every week and paying fees. This is the internet, there has to be some place to get a Diet plan AND shopping list for free!! My question has two parts: ONE does anyone know where to get a ABSOLOUTLY FREEEEE Diet Profile and SHOPPING LIST? And TWO: Does anyone have a Diet plan and shopping list for the HIGH FIBER DIET? I took several online tests and quizzes from places like ediets, diets, so on so on haha even celebrity fit club. But the most common answer for me since I am on the run, am a total fast food, microwave food, skip meals, only eat once or twice a day usually in the evening kinda gal WAS recommended to do the HIGH FIBER DIET. Any and all help on this would be so appreciated.
Answer:
This menu planning site is written by a Registered Dietitian, and includes a diet wide in variety, including fiber. The site includes recipes and shopping lists.
Boost fiber in the diets by choosing whole wheat products whenever possible: breads, pasta, cereals (hot adn cold), including dried beans and peas in your meals, nuts, fresh fruit, coconut, and all sorts of vegetables whenever possible.

Question : What are the best foods to eat for a high fiber diet?
Like breakfast, lunch and dinner with a grocery list. The price of produce is so high, what about us real folks who don't have mega bucks to spend on all the fancy stuff at the nutrition stores. I want to know some regular ideas for a high fiber lifestyle. Any honest idea's?
Answer:
I adopted a high fiber diet about a year and a half ago and I had the same concerns as you about the costs. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. It does get expensive but I try to eat the kinds that happen to be on sale that week, and I also have a garden and grow what I can myself. Also make sure that you don't peel things like apples and potatoes, since they have a lot of fiber in their skins.
I eat a lot of oatmeal and other high fiber/low sugar cereals. I've switched from regular pasta to the whole wheat kinds. You really have to read labels when you are looking for things like breads, cereals, tortillas, etc. When looking at the ingredients list look for "100% whole grain" as the first ingredient and stay away from products that list "enriched flour". Check the fiber content on the label also, some breads have none and others have 5 or more grams per serving. Avoid white rice and opt for brown instead. White rice has the fiber stripped from it in processing.
You can find recipes for things like whole-wheat pizza crust and whole-wheat pancakes that are affordable to make, taste great, and are high in fiber.
It takes a little work but it is possible to eat a high fiber diet without killing your checkbook. It's amazing how much better you will feel after eating this way for a while.
Good luck!!!

Question : What foods are high in fiber for a 3 year old?
What high fiber foods can I feed my son & what foods to avoid??
My doctor gave me a list but it was contradicting. It said avoid potatoes & then eat potatoes. It also said avoid rice, but eat brown rice. Also we are puerto rican so we eat alot of white rice & red or pink beans. Is that good or bad? Thank you all!
Answer:
Excellent sources of fiber are fruits and veggies, especially the skins (on those you can eat), as well as WHOLE grains.
Brown rice has more fiber than white rice, so try to switch to that if you're trying to increase fiber in your diet. You should be able to find brown rice, for about the same price as white, at just about any grocery store. Red beans are a good source of fiber, as are pink beans. Potatoes offer some, as well [some types more than others]. But, definitely try to incorporate other fruits veggies into your diet wherever you can--they offer much more than just fiber. And, now is a crucial time to teach your son to eat well and eat fruits and veggies.
|
Question : What is an easy high fiber food?
I'm a picky eater and I'd like a high fiber snack idea for work and maybe one for breakfast so I can stay full longer at work. I don't like "weird" food but I'm open to an suggestions.
Answer:
Wheat bread is always a good way to go. Beans are also high in fiber as well. There is actually fiber powder you can buy at the grocery store and mix into water that's colorless and tasteless that will help with food cravings. It also can be mixed into certain foods as well.
